15 Minutes with Hogy® Ambassador Eric Harrison Here is what we learned… Location: Western Long Island, NY Tides: Moving tides Approach: I hit channel edges and deeper holes in bays in areas with current from the tides. Using my fish finder and Navionics map I hung on the edges of channels looking for bait balls or marks from big fish. In deeper water, I was jigging mini-Hogys on half ounce jig heads and in 15′ or less I was swimming the 10″ Hogys on Barbarian jig heads. Shaun ruge www.riptidecharters.com Here’s what we learned…  Location: Southern Cape Cod Salt Ponds Tides: Having a strong current is more important to target feeding weakfish, this helps concentrate the fish along strong currents along channel edges. Both ends of the tide will work, but fishing can be slightly better on an outgoing tide. Approach: The most consistent way to locate weakfish is to begin searching in choke points around the mouths of salt ponds. The clean ocean water improves visibility for the trout to feed. Approach: There are many tiny islands that are slowly erroding away into the bay. Along the banks of these islands, grass over hangs and falls into the water. Speckled trout like to hang around these areas and feed on small blue crabs that use the grass for cover.
