Joe Shute Hogy Soft Bait BlueMax Skirted Trolling Lures

Blue Max Series: Designed for trolling at 4.5 kts or more. Blue Max series offer a “skirted” presentation. With the weighted Joe Shute Head, the Hogy combo tracks nice and straight, even in heavy seas. Although the BlueMax is rigged similarly to a skirted ballyhoo, the action, well, different. With the long soft tail associated with our Hogy soft plastics, the BlueMax has a deadly action that you really have to see to understand. The bait seemingly vibrates in the water.

Field Notes: Whether I am trolling for cold weather bluefin tuna or warm water yellowfin tuna, I ALWAYS have this lure in my spread. The bullet-style head tracks straight, true to its name. The Blue Max can be fished with soft plastics rigged directly and ballyhoo on the built in pin-rig. I often fish with the same fishing buddy and we have an on going bet over which rigging method catches more fish. We usually track about 50/50 but I can rig the soft plastic faster and change colors, giving me the edge on days when the fish are finicky.

- Capt. Mike Hogan

Specs: Professionally rigged with 175-pound fluorocarbon and SI Chafe Gear, the Blue Max has a built in pin rig for ballyhoo.
