How-To: Casting to Topwater Stripers off of Provincetown

Posted by Jamie Costa on

On a late June morning, Capt. Mike Hogan and the Salty Cape Crew head out of Sandwich Marina with Capt. Dave Peros to chase the bite off of Provincetown.

"It's Friday morning and it's time to get your poppers out," said Capt. Mike as boats in the background began casting at milling schools of topwater bass.

With the bass feeding on pogies, the topwater bite turned into a feeding frenzy as fish darted and splashed on the surface, looking for their next meal.

The 5.5" Hogy Charter Grade Popper in Albie Crack is designed as a topwater plug with a natural, life-like presentation that imitates that of a wounded bait fish.

"Quick cast, couple pops and you are on," said Capt. Mike.
