The fall blitzes of striped bass can be extremely large and sometimes you need someone a little different to cast into the mix. The Slow, Twin Tail does just this. I found it works best as the blitz is slowing down, I cast the slow tail and let it sink for 3 to 4 seconds. I then twitch the rod while reeling slow but fast enough to feel the twin tails vibrate. I feel the combination of the movement and vibration of the twin tail does that little more needed to make it very attractive to the striped bass.

This paddle tail is killing it this spring. I bought them for the weakfish because they like a slow paddle tail close to the bottom. I like to try paddle tails for stripers too when they aren't responding to the sp minnow. The stripers can't resist this paddle tail. It is now my go to lure. I can fish it fast when the fish are active and when they are close to the bottom I just slow down my retrieve and keep catching them. I just ordered more and can't wait for the weakfish to show up. The slow tail splittails are great for fresh water stripers. The 3/4 oz. is perfect in the dead of winter because they still have great action at extremely slow retrieves.

These are great for throwing in a fast current for backwater and inlets. They don’t roll like a traditional paddle tail when the current is moving fast. They are also great for shallow water and fast current as well.

After the second season fishing the middle part of the Chesapeake Bay I can tell you that in easy or tough conditions, this lure, the Hogy Slowtail, specifically in the 3/4 ounce in olive is the key to my being able to pull fish out of the water when NOTHING else worked.
I mean NOTHING cause I threw anything you can name, except live bait, at these fish in all kinds of weather conditions and all year long.
