Mini Squid Biki Rig System
Mini Squid Biki Rig System is built for efficiency and reach. It features three keel-weighted mini squid jigs and four subtle olive teaser strands, pre-tied on premium monofilament for fast, hassle-free deployment. Designed for early scouting missions, heavy bite windows for maxim squid counts, or vertical drops into deeper levels of water column from boats and bridges, the Biki Rig covers more of the water column and draws squid in from a distance, making it the ideal choice when you're searching for the feeding school
“Simple. Single. Subtle.”
Hogy Classic Squid Jig:
The Hogy Squid Jig is your go-to tool for targeted, horizontal presentations when squid are scattered or easily spotted but sluggish and the bite calls for subtlety. It features a keel-weighted design for a level, slow fall, 10X tough lifelike legs, a soft-touch finish that encourages longer grabs, and glow and UV pigments to maximize visibility. This jig excels during slack tide, when squid are most cautious, and finesse tactics make all the difference.
“It’s an easy peasy way to keep kids busy - age 7 to 79!In the old days we would make our “ squid pills” out of hardware store dowel sawed painted and tiny screw eyes at the ends for hook and line. These rigs provide a much easier way to “ make hay while the sun shines “ by providing multiple hookups and safer/ faster unhooking of the squid !” Capt. Jim L.
FAQ
Quick answers for most commonly asked questions about the Hogy Squid Jigs and fishing applications.
Do I really need both style jigs?
Yes — because each tool solves a different problem, and having both in your tackle bag means you’re ready for any squid mood or density level.
The Hogy Squid Jig shines when squid are present but sluggish and/or scattered at slack tide or hanging near structure like piling and/or rocks. Its horizontal fall, lifelike legs, and subtle glow/UV pigments allow you to present naturally right in front of them, especially in slack tide or clear water where precision matters.
The Mini Squid Biki Rig, on the other hand, is your coverage system. When squid are schooled up and aggressively feeding, the Biki Rig gives you more hooks, more teasers, and a bigger presence in the water column to up your squid count. It’s especially useful during main push of tide when squid are most aggressive. Conversely, the multiple teasers gives broader visibility when trying to located the schools.
Can I use the same rod for both?
Absolutely. A 6’6”–7’ light spinning rod, paired with a 2000–3000 size reel, 10–15lb braided mainline, and an 8–12lb
fluorocarbon leader, is perfect for both systems.
This setup gives you the sensitivity to detect subtle pickups with the Squid Jig, especially when squid are grabbing and holding rather than striking.
It also provides enough backbone to manage a full Biki Rig, even when you hook up on multiple jigs or need to lift vertically from a pier or boat.
No need for separate rods — just clip and
swap based on what the conditions call for
Are the legs and teasers durable?
Yes! Both are built for repeat use and tough sessions, even during hot bites.
The legs on the Hogy Squid Jig are made from 10X strong soft plastic, meaning they can handle multiple strikes without
tearing or fouling, even when fished near bottom structure.
The olive-tone teaser fibers on the Mini Squid Biki Rig are tied to maintain shape and movement, cast after cast, drop after drop.

Inshore Squid Jig Rods
Built with a soft, yet sensitive blank, these rods resist accidental breakage due to high sticking but still offer high sensitivity to light bites on smaller presentations, plus they have plenty of backbone in the blank to apply added pressure for larger inshore species. Paired with an appropriately sized reel, these are a pleasure to fish for daily applications.
