"The Squid Coverage System"

Hogy Squid-Biki Teaser System:
The Hogy Mini Squid Biki Rig is the coverage half of the Hogy Squid System. When squid are schooled up and feeding, scattered across a shoal, or stacked at different depths in the column, the Biki Rig puts three keel-weighted mini squid jigs and four subtle teaser strands into the water on a single drop. It’s the rig that maximizes squid count when the bite is on — and the rig that locates the school when they’re hard to find.
- 3-Dropper Rig (30lb Mono): Standard configuration. Three mini squid jigs spaced along the rig with four teaser strands between them. Pre-tied and ready to fish. Covers a wide vertical section of the water column on each drop.
- Bundle (3 Rigs): Three complete rigs for extended sessions. Squid fishing can be fast-paced and rigs see heavy use — having backups ready means no downtime during hot bites.
“More Teasers. More Action. More Squid.”
Mini Squid Biki Rig System
The Squid Biki Rig is your squid coverage system. Three keel-weighted jigs, four teaser strands, glow plastic, pre-tied and ready. Drop it when squid are schooled and aggressive for maximum count, or use it to locate scattered squid when the school is hard to find. Part of the two-part Hogy Squid System alongside the Charter Grade Squid Jig. Also doubles as a seasonal bait-making tool — fresh squid for stripers, tuna, and table fare.
“It’s an easy peasy way to keep kids busy - age 7 to 79! In the old days we would make our “ squid pills” out of hardware store dowel sawed painted and tiny screw eyes at the ends for hook and line. These rigs provide a much easier way to “ make hay while the sun shines." Capt. Jim L.

How to use the Squid Biki Teaser System
Environmental Factors (E)
- 15–150’ — inshore shoals to offshore ledges
- Spring and fall squid runs (primary windows)
- Low-light conditions — dawn, dusk, night (glow advantage)
- Clear to moderately dirty water
- Moderate current — the rig’s multi-jig weight holds in drift
Observational Factors (O)
- Squid marks on sounder showing schools in the column
- Visible squid activity at the surface or near lights
- Squid ink on the water or tentacle grabs on other rigs
- Need to fill a bucket quickly for bait
- Squid scattered or hard to find — the Biki Rig’s coverage locates them
Structure + Approach (S + A)
- Inshore shoals and sandy/gravel bottoms (Nantucket Sound, Buzzards Bay)
- Pier pilings and bridge structures (night squidding)
- Offshore shoals and ledges (tuna bait prep)
- Open water over marked schools
Techniques (T)
- Lift-and-Drop — Primary vertical technique for schooled squid
- Slow Pump Retrieve — Systematic column coverage
- Cast-and-Retrieve — Horizontal coverage over shallow shoals
- Pre-Tide Scouting — Locate scattered squid before the main bite
Species Coverage:
Primary: Loligo squid (longfin squid)
Bait value: Fresh squid for striped bass, tuna, fluke
Inshore Squid Jig Rods
Built with a soft, yet sensitive blank, these rods resist accidental breakage due to high sticking but still offer high sensitivity to light bites on smaller presentations, plus they have plenty of backbone in the blank to apply added pressure for larger inshore species. Paired with an appropriately sized reel, these are a pleasure to fish for daily applications.
- Mod-Fast Action Black For Increased Sensitivity.
- Premium Grade Cork Grip
- Heavy Duty Locking Aluminum Reel Seat
- Premium Ceramic Guides
