    Great Striper and Bluefish rod

Bought 2 of these and crushed stripers and blues all week at the race. Can't wait to try some small tuna on this setup. Using a BG8000 high-speed reel with it. Pairs perfectly

    Top water stripper bass

This rod is designed perfectly for throwing big spook style lures in 2-3 ounces with a 6k reel size. Has the parabolic action needed to make fighting stripe bass enjoyable without being too stiff. Will be ordering more.

    Best Gear on the Cape!

Well they seem well built, look great and have a wonderful feel to them.. Struggling to find a reel but that’s my issue. Probably gonna end up having a striper reel and smaller tuna reel to swap.

But as with all Hogy products if the fish are around their gear gets it done!!

Great Rod at a good price

Much of the spinning rod market has moved towards high modulous, extremely fast action blanks. This rod reminds me of the discontinuous St. Croix 20-40lb Premier spinning rod. It has enough backbone to lift a 50-80lb fish and will comfortably flex into the cork grip. The softer flexability of the blank is forgiving to anglers and absorbs the head shakes or surging runs that can cause the loss of larger fish with braided lines. Very happy with this rod, it is a simple specific tool for a specific job and will be ordering more.

FAQ

Quick answers for most commonly asked questions about the The Hogy Lean Rod System

How does Capt. Mike use this rod?

This is my go-to for heavy inshore work and offshore crossover situations. I use it for casting 3oz+ Hogy Protail Paddles to tuna, slow-jigging sea bass in 100’, and throwing big paddle tails to cow bass in rips.

Typical Use Cases:
  • Inshore – Cow stripers, deep jigging for groundfish, 2–4oz softbaits in fast current
  • Offshore – Topwater tuna casting, vertical jigging, light mahi and kingfish duty
  • Tuna Backup Rod – Has stepped in more than once when my dedicated setup is busy
  • Ready Pitch Rod – Always rigged offshore for spontaneous tuna or mahi bites
