Compact Finesse, Surprising Strength

This is the rod Capt. Mike reaches for more than any other—spring stripers, fall albies, and shallow-water jigging for sea bass, fluke, tog, and scup. With a fast-reacting tip and a deceptively strong midsection, it casts with precision, and still puts the screws to bigger fish. From back-bay scouting to all-day albie hunts, this rod earns its place every trip.

Description:

Unique Action Profile: Two Rods in One

This rod is fairly unique in that it behaves like two rods in one. While its overall power is “fairly light,” the action is where things get interesting. It earns its moderate-fast action rating in a distinctive way. The primary action starts with a fast tip—about the top 18" flexes first, allowing for crisp responsiveness when casting lighter lures. Once that tip is maxed out, the rod transitions quickly into the moderate midsection, enabling a smooth bend through the blank.

This unique behavior gives you options:

• Snap-cast ultra-light lures off the tip

• Lob heavier lures using the deeper flex of the midsection

In experienced hands, this dual-behavior opens up a wide casting range. I call it the "lob cast", though some may refer to it as "power casting". Either way, this rod gives you the ability to fish finesse or push heavy, all with the same blank. It’s easily one of the most versatile rods I’ve ever fished with.

Delaware River Striped Bass Spinning Rod

The perfect action for Striped Bass . I throw 1/2 to 3/4 oz paddle tale swimbaits on the 7` ml. Awesome feel, soft tip.

A complete joy to fish all day , I have the Hybrid Spinning on order for 1 to 4 oz lures. Cant wait till it arrives.

After the first trip out using the Hogy Rods , I put my other Striped Bass rods for sale on FB Marketplace.

Customer Service /Sales are very nice and helpful in my pre purchase .

    Great rods for rips

I bought these rods for clients to use while bass fishing the reefs and rips off Watch Hill, RI. They’re paired with Stradic 5000’s. They do a great job of throwing everything from smaller soft plastics on jig heads to larger weightless soft plastics. So far we have landed bass to 42” on them and they have performed very well. I particularly like the length of the rear grip, shape of the fore grip, and design of the reel seat lock nut- it doesn’t loosen up. I am looking forward to continuing to use these rods and adding a couple more to the boat.

    THIS ROD ROCKS

This rode really blew me away. Its sensitivity and playfulness combined with its overbuilt quality really blew me away. Landed a low slot striper with a lot of fun, never felt I was having trouble. Highly considering ordering the MH model now I was so impressed with the quality compared to the mass-produced rods.

FAQ

Quick answers for most commonly asked questions about the The Hogy Lean Rod System

Can this be my one and only inshore rod?

Yes. If you’re looking for a single, do-it-all rod for inshore fishing, this one fits the bill. It casts light lures with finesse, jigs effectively in shallow to mid-depth water, and even has enough backbone to handle bigger striped bass and blues in calm conditions. I’ve filmed so many Salty Cape TV episodes with this rod—casting, jigging, from shore, from boat—I’ve honestly lost track. It's my highest-frequency rod and the first I grab when heading out, especially when the conditions are variable and I don’t know exactly what I’ll be throwing. This rod is compact finesse with surprising strength—and for most anglers, it truly could be their one and only inshore setup.

The compromise?

It does max out with medium-sized plugs and can get outgunned when landing big fish in heavy current. For those situations, a heavier rod is the better tool. But for 80–90% of what most inshore anglers do, this one punches way above its weight.
