FAQ
Quick answers for most commonly asked questions about the Surface Eraser Plug and fishing applications.
How should I store the Hogy Surface Eraser?
There are so many reasons of why we are big fans on in-line single J-hooks. In addition to healthier releases, better landing
rates on larger fish, we love how storable inline rigged jigs are in mesh roll up bags.
The best way to store it is in a medium mesh roll-up lure bag. This keeps it organized, prevents hook tangles, and allows it to air dry after use. Always rinse with fresh water after each trip.
What colors match different baitfish?
Squid Imitation: Amber, Pink, Bone
Sand Eels & Peanut Bunker: Olive, Chrome
Herring: Bone, Chrome
Can I jig the Hogy Surface Eraser?
Absolutely! The Hogy Surface Eraser has killer action when jigged. On drop the keel weight gives the jig a little dance on the drop, and almost walks the dog on a lift! While jigging wasn’t part of the design theory of this lure, it certainly worked out! It sure does pay to be lucky!
We have intentionally jigged weakfish, like on this shoot here: LINK A lot of folks use the Surface eraser for sand eels on shallow water structure with light leaders for finiky fish. The long skinny bodies are like having a built in leader into the lure!
Striper anglers in our area here at Hogy HQ regularly drop the surface eraser on bass keyed in on sand eels in shallow water. The 4” version in skinny water with micro bait, and the larger version in deeper water with oceanic sized sand eels.
I heard you can reverse the hook. Is that true?
Yes! When you reverse the hook, it converts into a slow-swimming plug with a subtle “wag n roll” action. This gives you two lures in one, allowing you to switch up presentations without changing gear. We are big fans of rigging this way in skinny back bays and estuaries.
Did I hear that this Captain Mike’s favorite lure?
Yes… but he loves them all in their own unique ways.
