In this episode of Salty Cape T.V, we join Capt. Ray Jarvis of Salt of the Earth Sportfishing for an early spring tautog trip. With water temperatures still in the 40's it took some patience to get on a solid bite, but the crew rounded out the day with plenty of healthy-sized tautog on the NEW Hogy Groundfish Biki Jigs and Inshore Spinning Rods. During our trip the fish were keyed in on micro hake and rain fish, making it exceptionally difficult to get bit. We switched gears from topwater and soft baits and found success working the mid-water column using Hogy 2oz Epoxy Jig Lures in Anchovy.

We crack the code on super finicky stripers sipping tiny hake and sand eels on the surface utilizing a slow-twitch retrieve with the new Hogy Slowtail Swimbait. Fishing out of Barnegat Inlet along coastal New Jersey with Capt. Rob Radlof of Waterman Charters, we push through some sloppy seas to find pretty epic surface feeds of southbound Striped Bass.

Watch as the Hogy Crew targets suspended Stripers feeding on sand eels. During this trip, we utilize a unique style of jigging called Snap Jigging. This technique is accomplished by using short, sharp rod tip snaps to quickly twitch the Sand Eel Jig imparting erratic action while keeping the jig at a specific depth in the strike zone.

The Hogy Crew heads down to the Jersey Coast in search of late November coastal Striper action. Fish were finicky and keyed in on small hake and sand eels balled up near shallow water humps.

Jimmy Pragana of Epic Offshore head out with the Salty Cape Crew to target monster mid-August nighttime stripers with the "slappy technique," which is a slow, vertical jig along the bottom of the water column where these 35lb.+ class fish can often be found.

Capt. Rob Lowell of Cape Cod Offshore Charters shares a great early season topwater schoolie bite with Capt. Mike Hogan near the West End of the Canal. The fish were feeding on very small baits, but surprisingly responded best to oversized topwater plugs fished quickly on the surface.
