7' 6" Heavy Inshore Spinning Plug Rod

System Role: The Plugger
SKU: HLTI76MH-S
MSRP: $225.00

Heavy Plugs. Parabolic Lift. Old-School Feel.
The Plugger is built for tossing oversized inshore plugs at big stripers, doubling as a smooth-jigging groundfish stick and a compact surf option, all with an old-school moderate action tuned for today’s lures.

Description:

Designed for heavy-duty light tackle (HDLT) inshore applications: The Hogy 7’6” MH Tackle Plugging Rod is perfect for throwing larger plugs to trophy striped bass, soft baits to big tarpon, and working structure for oversized snook. Built with a responsive yet forgiving blank, this rod resists high-stick breakage during the heat of the fight while maintaining tip sensitivity for accurate casts and subtle strikes. With its longer length and stout backbone, this rod offers increased casting distance and added lifting power when fighting large inshore gamefish.

Bottom Line: This is your go-to heavy-duty light tackle spinning rod when chasing big fish with big baits. #FishSimple

    Very impressed

Great build with quality components. Should be nice with those plugs that are a little heavier but can handle the small plastic as well.

FAQ

Quick answers for most commonly asked questions about the The Hogy Lean Rod System

When should I use this rod?

This rod comes out when heavy plugs and strong fish demand extra backbone. On the boat, Capt. Mike leans on it for striped bass in tight rips and around structure, especially along the Elizabeth Islands, where XL dog walkers, sliders, and paddletails need the power and cushion of a parabolic blank to land fish quickly in current. Its smooth load sends 3–4oz offerings long and accurate, while keeping plugs swimming naturally through chop and tide lines.

From shore, it doubles as a tactical short-game surf rod, ideal for working big plugs and softbaits in boulder fields, jetty corners, and pocket beaches where heavy structure holds cows. It also shines on long-range feeds with 1.5oz+ metals and Surface Erasers, especially when paired with a 400-class reel and lighter braid for added reach. In those moments when fish are blitzing just off the bar, or albies are pushing bait out of standard range, this rod provides the casting distance and control to stay in the game.
