Hogy System Rods: Inshore
The Hogy Inshore System is built with a unified feel and functional simplicity that translates across every rod in the lineup. No gimmicks — just smart design that gets out of the way and lets you fish.
Why Inshore Belong in the System
Moderate-Fast Actions: Sensitive tips for casting precision, with deeper bends for shock absorption and powerful hooksets.
Shorter Butt Lengths: Easier handling, less fatigue, better balance in real-world fishing conditions.
Built-In Overlap: Each rod slightly overlaps the next in power, giving you flexibility without redundancy.
Matched Feel: A consistent backbone across all rods for seamless transitions between tactics.
The 4-Rod System
Built for real-world fishing. Not theory.
Modern gear is amazing—but without a system, you end up with a garage full of rods and no clear idea what to bring. This 4-rod setup is my answer: lean, intentional, and tuned for fast, tide-to-tide adaptability. This system covers everything from estuary schoolies to offshore crossover use—without clutter or confusion. Every rod earns its place.

7' Hogy Inshore System Medium Spinning Rod
This is the rod Capt. Mike reaches for more than any other—spring stripers, fall albies, and shallow-water jigging for sea bass, fluke, tog, and scup.
With a fast-reacting tip and a deceptively strong midsection, it casts with precision, and still puts the screws to bigger fish. From back-bay scouting to all-day albie hunts, this rod earns its place every trip.
System Role:
- Inshore: Casting Small Plugs & Softbait Striper, Snook, Small Tarpon
- Inshore: Jigging Shallow Groundfish
- Inshore: Casting Small Jigs & Plugs Albies

the rack when conditions call for subtlety, precision, and small-bait tactics.

7' Hogy Inshore System MH Spinning Rod
This rod is the backbone of the Hogy system when heavier striper lures and deeper groundfish jigs are in play. The 7' Medium-Heavy is built to cover nearly every inshore scenario where “heavy light tackle” is the name of the game.
“Heavy” is a relative term—while this rod can handle lures approaching 4oz using a controlled lob cast, it remains light in the hand and fun to fish. Its moderate-fast, dual-phase action gives you a broad casting window, offering crisp accuracy with mid-weight plugs and smooth delivery of heavier jigs when needed.
System Role:
- Inshore: Casting Medium Plugs & Softbait Striper, Snook, Mid-Sized Tarpon
- Inshore: Light Tackle Groundfish to 100'
- Inshore: Casting Heavy Jigs & Plugs Albies
Why It Matters: The inshore casting "Hammer" built for heavier presentations for larger inshore species in heavy current with plenty of backbone behind the rod.
The “Plug & Swimbait Rod”
7'6" Inshore H Plug Rod
The Plugger is built for tossing oversized inshore plugs at big stripers, doubling as a smooth-jigging groundfish stick and a compact surf option, all with an old-school moderate action tuned for today’s lures.
Watch VideoSystem Role: The “Heavy Plug & Long Casts”
7'6" Hogy Inshore System H Plug Rod
This rod is built for distance, power, and control with the heaviest inshore plugs and paddletails. Equal parts boat tool and shore rod, it’s the tactical short-game surf stick that excels with controlled lob casts of XL dog walkers, sliders, and heavy swimbaits. From the rocks, jetties, or beach, the extra length adds 20–30% more casting range, keeps line high and clear in chop, and makes it possible to reach spooky fish sitting just outside standard 7’ rod range.
On the boat, that same length and moderate parabolic action translate into smooth presentations and steady lifting power with heavy softbaits, deep jigging metals, or larger topwaters worked through rips and strong current. It handles heavy plugs for stripers in close, metals for long-range albie feeds, and softbaits slow-rolled along structure with equal authority. Whether on deck or on the shoreline, this rod’s balance of distance and control makes it the go-to for heavy-duty inshore plugging across seasons.
System Role:
- Inshore: Casting Large Plugs & Softbait Striper, Snook, Mid-Sized Tarpon
- Inshore: Light Tackle Groundfish to 100'
- Inshore: Casting Heavy Jigs & Plugs
Why It Matters: This is the heaviest, inshore rod in the system. It spans Boat and shore equally well. With heavy plugs or deep jigs, the blank bends smooth into the midsection, cushioning braid shock and protecting leaders. On the cast, it’s tuned for controlled lob delivery of 3–4oz offerings, with easy distance gains from the 7’6” length. On the fight, smaller fish play off the tip, but cows and tuna load the entire blank for steady, forgiving lift.

tuna.
System Role: The “Light Tackle Tuna Casting”
7' Inshore/Offshore Hybrid Rod (Spinning)

System Role:
- Inshore: Jigging Large Stripers
- Inshore: Jigging Deepwater Groundfish
- Inshore: Casting Heavy lures + Strong Currents
- Offshore: Casting Light Tackle Tuna
Why It Matters: With a deeper, forgiving action, this rod is ideal for 3–6oz jigs inshore and can handle light offshore tasks. When you want inshore power and offshore reach in one spinning rod, this is it.
“The Lean Rod System isn’t about making compromises for sake of ease, it’s about doing more with gear that makes sense. From topwaters to jigging, the system built to move fast, fish smart, and stay comfortable. Because when your rods are part of the system and not just a pile on the deck, You focus less on what to grab next… and more on what the fish are doing."
