North East Cod Fishing Party Boat - What Lures To Bring

Posted by Capt. Michael Hogan on

There's a growing trend among saltwater fishermen in the northeast – winter party boat cod fishing. While these are boats commonly associated with a summer’s day of fishing -  gear up for winter cod fishing for anglers willing to bundle up and endure the cold. Wintery party boats in the Northeast typically reduce their head count for winter fishing to better accommodate anglers keeping warm in the Cabin for long runs.

Hogy Cod Fishing

Deep sea for winter cod fishing is a great way to extend your fishing addiction to a year-round level in the Northeast, commonly a dead time for most anglers No airline tickets required!!

One major plus to the winter cod fishing in the northeast is that many of the tuna fishing spots our customer’s hit in the summer are the same ones the winter cod fishing party boats hit in the winter, offering a great way to learn how to cod fishing for a plan B in the summer when the tuna aren’t biting.

If you're looking to kill two birds with one stone this winter and have some fun while you fish, then check out some of the best party boats in the northeast region!

Winter Cod Fishing Boats:

I often see both boats below Cod Fishing and sometimes sea bass fishing at Coxes Ledge, a favorite early season bluefin tuna fishing spot for me departing out of Cape Cod. Coxes Ledge is a cool spot as it is (for the most part) equidistant for boats departing Cape Cod, South Coast of Ma, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and NY and is easily reachable from New Jersey. I regularly see boats from all these ports at Coxes Ledge which is due south of Block Island. Coxes Ledge spans a large area with depths ranging from 115’ to 130’ with varied terrain, lots of humps and drop offs which means its almost always holding fish!

CAPT. MIKE’S LIST OF WINTER COD FISHING BOATS:

Massachusetts:

Helen H:
Departs: Hyannis, MA
Up to 50 passengers
 Open Boat: NA in Winter
Times: NA in Winter

The Helen H was once known for their winter cod fishing A-Game, offering long(er) range trips offshore for Cod, often to George’s Bank and Maybe Coxes Ledge. UNFORTUNATELY, according to their website, it appears the Helen-H no longer offers winter Cod fishing. Fishing George’s Bank in the winter was on my bucket list. Maybe next year or this summer!
