If I Had to Pick Just Three...

If I had to pick just three lures for targeting albies this season, it would be these. First up is the Hogy Epoxy Jig. I reach for this one on calm days when the fish demand a more finesse-style retrieve. With lots of twitches and pauses, it skips across the water, perfectly mimicking the small baitfish albies love.

-

Next is the Surface Eraser. This little beauty casts like a jig but fishes like a soft bait. It can throw a mile, thanks to its weighted keel, and you can work it fast on the surface or slow and subsurface. A few rod twitches, and this bait will dart and dance just like a real baitfish.

-

Last but certainly not least are the Peanut Jigs. These compact metal lures are perfect when you need to cover distance. While you might sacrifice some finesse action compared to the Epoxy Jig, you gain incredible casting range in a small, weighted size. Plus, these lures have a built-in wobble on a steady retrieve, making them irresistible to fish.

-

The best part? When you rig these lures with an inline configuration, they fit perfectly in the included roll-up bag. After a trip, just hose them off, and you're good to go. With these three lures in your bag, you're ready for any albie situation you can think of.

The Gear List

Hogy Epoxy Jig: The Finesse Finisher

When to Use: Ideal for calm days when fish are more selective and require a finesse approach.

How to Retrieve: Use a technique with lots of twitches and pauses, allowing the lure to skip across the water like a fleeing baitfish.

Why It Works: The subtle, lifelike action of the Epoxy Jig makes it a perfect match for albies that are keyed in on small baitfish.

Surface Eraser: Cast Like a Jig. Fish Like a Softbait.

When to Use: Perfect for situations where you need a versatile lure that can be worked both on the surface and just below.

How to Retrieve: Cast it out, then work it fast on the surface or slow and subsurface, using rod twitches to create a darting action.

Why It Works: The Surface Eraser’s unique design lets you cover a lot of water and entice strikes whether the fish are near the surface or down a bit deeper.

Peanut Jigs: Small Imitators with a Punch

When to Use: Best when long-range casting is required for very small lures, or in windy conditions.

How to Retrieve: Cast far and retrieve steadily to take advantage of the built-in wobble, or vary your retrieve speed to trigger bites.

Why It Works: The compact, heavy design of the Peanut Jigs allows you to reach distant fish while still providing a natural, enticing action on the retrieve.
