"The Inshore Deep Diver"

Description

The Hogy 5” Shallow Deep-Diving Swimming Plug is a compact, heavy-duty trolling plug built for inshore and nearshore anglers targeting striped bass, bluefish, bonito, false albacore, Spanish mackerel, kingfish, blackfin tuna, and other aggressive gamefish feeding below the surface.

Pre-tuned for perfect swimming action right out of the package, this 5” plug dives naturally to 12+ feet and tracks straight at speeds up to 7mph, making it a simple, reliable option for trolling rips, channels, inlets, ledges, bait schools, and nearshore structure.

Built with durable through-wired construction, a heavy-duty stainless split ring, VMC 4X treble hook, and a rear plug flag teaser, this lure delivers a strong baitfish profile with added flash, vibration, and strike-triggering movement. Multiple internal rattle chambers help predators locate the plug, while reflective scale finishes and imitative color patterns match common forage in both clear and stained water.

Simple by design and easy to fish, this plug is made for anglers who want a compact swimming plug that gets down, stays swimming, and gets bit.

    Solid Movement

I love that you can feel their stride through the rod real well….also….when hooked up to a hot in a rip….you know you can hammer down the drag and pull the fish out without bending hooks and beating up the lure…

    Secret weapon for deepwater tarpon!

I've found this plug to be perfect for targeting scattered tarpon holding in 18' - 25' of water. Trolling at 3mph with the tide, the bait swims mid-water column, right where tarpon are holding. Hold the rod with the rod tip towards the water and hold on! So far, I've jumped 13 early season tarpon from 80lb - 150lb on the plug while others were struggling with live and dead bait.

    Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone!

How To Troll Plugs for Deepwater Tarpon

Capt. Ross Gallagher walks through trolling techniques for targeting finicky tarpon suspended in deepwater channels using the Hogy 5" Swimming Plug. Designed to swim at 10' - 12' depths, this trolling plug effectively targets the feeding zone of suspended tarpon when trolled at slow speeds. Tarpon trolling is common in certain geographic regions, but is largely and untapped method of target tarpon across the South East.
