• Semi-Buoyant Resin Body:

This is what makes the Epoxy a different animal. The resin body weighs less than lead or zinc metals, which translates directly into finesse. It buys you time in the column, softens the splash on entry, and lets you manipulate retrieve speed and cadence without overpowering the bait. • Double-Thick Translucent Epoxy Coat:

The Epoxy Jig responds to everything from a dead-still hover to a fast, erratic skip. Retrieve selection depends on what the fish are doing, not what you’re used to throwing. Here’s the framework.

• Surface Blitzes (Albies, Bonito, Stripers on Bait)

- Fish crashing bait on top. The most exciting and demanding casting scenario.

- Skippy Retrieve (Default for Blitzes)

- Rod high (10–11 o’clock), twitch the tip continuously while reeling fast. 2–3 cranks per second. Imitates bait skipping for its life. Use in bright light, choppy water, or aggressive feeds. This is the retrieve that defines albie fishing.

Reel-Reel-Pause: Rod at 9 o’clock. Three to four quick cranks, then pause 1–2 seconds. The pause triggers strikes from fish tracking the jig. Deadly when albies are following but not fully committing.

Steady Wobble: Rod mid-level. Straight retrieve, no rod movement. 1–2 cranks per second. Use to locate scattered fish or when visibility is limited. The simplest retrieve — let the EPO’s natural action do the work.

• Current Seams and Rip Edges:

- Fish holding in ambush positions where current funnels bait.

- Fish the Swing

- Let the current sweep the EPO through the seam. Add occasional rod pops or slow cranks to keep it animated. Works like a drifted baitfish caught in the tide. Deadly on channel edges, tide lines, and rip margins.

Dead Drift: No retrieve. Let the current carry the jig with minimal tension. Imitates stunned or dying bait drifting through the strike zone. The most passive retrieve — and sometimes the most effective for pressured stripers.

• Blind Casting (No Visible Fish):

- No birds, no breaking fish. Just water, structure, and time.
Escalation strategy: Start with Steady Wobble to search. Shift to Reel-Pause if you get follows. Escalate to Skippy for aggressive reaction bites. Vary cast angles and let the jig drop a second or two before starting the retrieve.

• Deeper Open Water (20–60’): Fish holding over shoals, edges, or suspended bait.

Kerplunk: Hard cast, let the jig sit for 20–30 seconds (sometimes up to a minute). Lift 12–24 inches with a sharp snap, let it fall on slack. Repeat. Most strikes come on the fall or after the initial sit. A wake-up call for inactive predators.

Slow and Low: Rod low and steady (8–9 o’clock). Smooth, continuous retrieve. One crank every two seconds. Keeps the jig just above the bottom. Great in cold water or when fish are lethargic.

• Shallow Water Jigging (<30’):

- Finesse jigging for sea bass, fluke, scup, and bottom-holding stripers.

Slow Pitch (Casting Jig Version): Smooth lift from 9 to 11 o’clock, then drop with slight slack. The EPO flutters on the fall with more hang time than a metal, giving fish longer to react. One crank per lift.

Pitch-Pause-Drag: Gentle rod lift of 12–18 inches, pause on the fall, then slow crank to glide the jig along the bottom before lifting again. Mimics small crabs and baitfish crawling and darting. Effective for fluke and sea bass.

• Environmental Factors (E):

• Observational Factors (O):

- Finicky, Surface-Feeding Fish: Built for fish cruising up top but not committing to hard baits. Walk it, twitch it, or hover without pushing fish off the feed.

- Microbait Conditions: When fish are keyed on tiny stuff — rain bait, silversides, baby anchovies — the EPO gives you size, color, and movement accuracy.

- Light Sonar Marks / Suspended Fish: Cast uptide or crosswind and let the EPO settle into the zone with minimal movement. One light twitch can seal the deal.

- Sight Fishing: Cast close and soft. When chasing singles or small pods, you need something that lands like a feather and responds to subtle rod work.

• Structure + Approach (S + A):

- Shallow Flats: Fish high in the column, keep the bait in sight without spooking fish or snagging bottom.

- Open Beach (Close-In): When fish are within 40 yards, best mix of precision and finesse. Soft cast, little twitch, it just looks alive.
