Lightweight and full of splashing action, the Hogy Splash Bird Bar has quickly become one of the most popular light tackle spreader bars for tuna trolling. Imitative UV-infused squid bodies offer irresistible
action paired with our stainless spring steel bars. Designed for offshore trolling at four to twelve-knot speeds, these lightweight spreader bars can be trolled on much lighter tackle than traditional
titanium rigs. A staff favorite for targeting school Bluefin and Yellowfin tuna along the Northeast Coast and Canyons.

Advantages:

The bird function of the bar allows the bar to swim well without outriggers, which is important when fished further back.

The commotion can add attraction because it is far away from the boat's wake, also an attraction.

The bird bar will float, so if you back off, you can leave the further back bar out while you fight the fish and avoid tangles.

    They Stand by their Product

So i had originally got the Port sidetracker two years ago and used it successfully many times. Earlier this year i was out looking for Bluefin tuna when this bar got crushed, not once, but twice by Tuna. Unfortuanately, the second time, the bar got damaged (in fairness, it was a 500lb fish). When i contacted Hogy on a Monday, they had the replacement shipped to me immediately, and i had it to use by that weekend (caught 2 more bluefin on it that weekend). I have lots of Hogy gear, and love it all!

    Dorado , Cabo San Lucas

Great quality and along with the side planers this product worked great. We hit Dorados right from the start. Did not try on Tuna yet.

    Trolling day

Works amazing for not having outrigger system. You won’t be disappointed. I was out trolling for tuna but the bass and blue fish were all over this rig. I did have a bluefin hit this rig and take about 80 yards of line and shook the hook about 30 feet from the boat.

    Small boat tuna

These bird bars are exactly what is needed for chasing tuna with a small boat. They float and are directional so, in my case with no outriggers, I can fish 4 rods easily. Port and starboard directional birds, a straight bar way back and one harness jig in close. Perfect!

No Outrigger Bluefin Tuna Trolling + Hogy Directional Bird Bar

Capt. Mike Hogan shows us how to deploy a 5-rod no-outrigger tuna spread using the Hogy Directional Tuna Splash Bird Bars for trolling scattered tuna in Cape Cod Bay. The Hogy 18" Pocket Splash Bar has a place in every spread. Its small size makes it easy to manage on light tackle and traditional gear. The bird is made out of super lightweight foam that is impossibly strong. The oversized wings spray water up to 24" and are made of a semi-rigid plastic that reduces breakage when the bar hits the deck.

School Bluefin Tuna Trolling | Simple 4 Rod Spread | South of MV

Capt. Mike from Salty Cape and Hogy Lures loads up his 28' Contender and steams South of MV in anticipation of cashing in on a hot school Bluefin Tuna bite. With the fish being scattered, he name of the game was deploying a simple 4-rod spread of the Hogy Directional Bird Bars. These bars are ideal for any angler who doesn't have or doesn't want to deal with outriggers on their boat.
